Ashlyn Tate always uses a helmet when riding, regardless of whether it's required in her discipline. Her newest IRH helmet gives her reliable protection and great comfort inside and outside the arena. Despite collecting some extra scratches from roping, she likes how it looks and appreciates the comfort it provides daily.
Ashlyn Tate, from Brigantine, NJ, developed her passion for horses as a child in Wayne, PA, thanks to family friend Jane Condi, who introduced her to horses and encouraged her interest despite Ashlyn's family having no prior experience with them.
When Kristy Lenoir met Ashlyn, she quickly noticed Ashlyn’s potential and encouraged her by offering riding time and coaching. Not long after, Ashlyn got her first horse, Pansy, an OTTB from Pennsylvania.
Inspired by barrel racing at her first rodeo, she shifted Pansy’s training from English to western events. Despite challenges, Ashlyn persevered, now leading New Jersey in Barrel Racing and Pole Bending for NJHSRA. She has qualified for National High School Rodeo World Finals four times, as well as the 2025 NBHA World Finals. This year, she aims to qualify for the 2026 Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Ashlyn has benefited from the support of numerous individuals who have contributed to her equestrian expertise and passion. In return, she volunteers at Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center in EHT, NJ, where she assists with a lesson program for riders with disabilities. Ashlyn and Pansy also participate in outreach initiatives to advocate for second careers for off-the-track thoroughbreds. Currently a Junior at Ocean City High School, Ashlyn is a member of the National Honor Society, swim team, and class council. She intends to pursue nursing studies while competing on the collegiate rodeo circuit.
